SOUTHWEST GAS AWARDS LAUB SCHOLARSHIPS
Las Vegas, Nev.—Southwest Gas Corporation and the Laub Foundation have awarded $1,500 H.G. Laub Scholarships to Las Vegas residents Joshua Aurich, Alyse Dorman, William Fang, Anthony Sikorski, Henry Sikorski, Nicholas Sikorski and Jesseca Zwerg, children of Southwest Gas employees.
The announcement was made by Chief Executive Officer and William M. Laub Foundation trustee, Jeff Shaw. “Education is the key to a young person’s future, and we are proud to continue a 21-year tradition of helping students and encouraging them to pursue their career goals,” stated Shaw.
Named after company founder Harold Goodspeed Laub, the H.G. Laub Scholarships honor the sons and daughters of Southwest Gas employees who have set and achieved high academic and personal standards. The scholarships are renewable for four years and are applied to undergraduate studies or vocational school careers.
Aurich, a 2009 graduate of Foothill High School, will attend the University of Nevada, Las Vegas this fall to study civil and environmental engineering. In his senior year in high school, Aurich carried a curriculum that included five honors courses and was ranked 48th in his class. He earned an academic letter in his sophomore, junior and senior years and was active in the Boy Scouts of America.
Dorman is a 2009 graduate of Silverado High School. She plans to attend the University of Nevada, Las Vegas this fall where she will study community health science. In high school, Dorman was active on the women’s basketball team as well as a member of the marching band, advanced band and chamber band. She was also active in the community with the Celebration Church youth group and Relay for Life.
Fang is a 2009 graduate of Clark High School. He plans to attend Johns Hopkins University where he will major in biology, with the career goal of becoming an anesthesiologist. During his senior year in high school, Fang carried a curriculum that included six honors courses and was ranked first in his class. He was also active in Jazz Band, Key Club, varsity swimming and varsity tennis.
Anthony Sikorski is a 2009 graduate of Bishop Gorman High School. He plans to attend Southern Methodist University in the fall to study civil engineering and business, with the career goal of becoming a golf course architect. In high school, Sikorski participated on the golf team and in the science club and was co-valedictorian of his graduating class. He was also active in the community with Christmas in April, Opportunity Village and the American Heart Association Heart Walk.
Henry Sikorski, a 2009 graduate of Bishop Gorman High School, plans to attend Southern Methodist University in the fall to study civil and structural engineering. Sikorski was co-valedictorian of his graduating class. In high school, he was active with the National Honor Society and the golf team. He also participated in many community service programs, including Christmas in April, Opportunity Village and the American Heart Association Heart Walk.
Nicholas Sikorski is a 2009 graduate of Bishop Gorman High School. He will attend Southern Methodist University in the fall to study civil engineering and business. In high school, Sikorski was active on the bowling, golf and hockey teams and the National Honor Society. He also served his community in such events as Christmas in April, Opportunity Village and the American Heart Association Heart Walk.
Zwerg is 2009 graduate of Bonanza High School. She plans to attend Arizona State University this fall and study journalism/communications. In high school, Zwerg was active with the Bonanza Theater Department, National Honor Society, the dance team and the cheer squad. She also helped to organize clothing drives for Safe Nest and tutored junior high and high school students. Also, she volunteers at synagogue events and is a summer camp counselor.
