Southwest Gas Teams Up with Family Assistance Program to Sponsor Tiny Home Village for Transitional Age Youth in Victorville

Tiny Home Village aims to end homelessness for young people aged 18 – 24
VICTORVILLE, Calif. – Southwest Gas to sponsor four tiny homes through a donation to the Family Assistance Program. The Family Assistance Program has provided shelter services to the Victorville community for 38 years. Recently they announced plans to build transitional housing for homeless young adults aged 18-24 who are moving on from foster care, state custody or have left home due to unsafe conditions. Southwest Gas donated $30,000 from the Southwest Gas Foundation and $12,000 through their employee giving program FUEL for LIFE to support the Tiny Home Village.

The contribution by Southwest Gas will fund the construction of four homes equipped with electricity, HVAC, a bed, desk, chair, and locker storage. The Tiny Home Village also has communal areas such as a fire pit, picnic tables, and restrooms with showers.

Since 1985, Family Assistance Program, formally known as High Desert Domestic Violence Program (HDDVP), has been providing shelter and advocacy services to victims of domestic violence (DV). Throughout the years, the agency has grown into so much more. We now have a much larger shelter, a transitional housing program, a separate outreach office, satellite offices in the cities of San Bernardino and Fontana, and we have embarked on several new programs: three runaway/homeless youth shelters, a homeless youth street outreach team , youth drop-in centers, Next Step re-entry program, community centers, anti-human trafficking program, and other programs and services to support the needs of our Victor Valley, San Bernardino, and Morongo Basin communities. As the community needs have been identified, the agency has grown to accommodate and assist our population.
