North Lake Tahoe Lateral Pipeline Replacement Project


Q&D Construction, a Southwest Gas contractor, will be replacing gas facilities on SR 28 between Kings Beach and Tahoe City, California. The work will include replacement of gas mains and services within the highway and on adjacent properties. Gas service to homes and businesses will not be interrupted. Residents and visitors to the area may experience traffic delays and should expect lane shifts and periodic lane closures within the work area. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained during construction.

October 29, 2023
 
All work will take place Monday- Friday between 7am – 7pm.
Monday, October 30th- Friday, November 3rd our service crews will be working on services between Agate Rd. and Caledonia Circle.
Monday, October 30th a crew will placing woodchips on the side of the road west of Rocky Ridge. This work will only take place for a few hours.
All traffic will be single lane.  Motorists can expect traffic delays while traveling on Highway 28.

No Parking is permitted in and around the work zone.
 
Beginning Sunday, October 1st at 7:00 pm an additional crew will be working in Carnelian Bay.  Bi- directional traffic will be maintained from Onyx St. to Center St.  Single lane traffic will be maintained from Center St. to Ridgewood Rd. Work will be 24 hours beginning Sunday, October 1st at 7:00pm until Friday, October 6th  at 2:00pm.
 
Motorists could encounter delays of 30 minutes or more on Highway 28.

Historical Updates
April 2023
Crews will begin set up and utility potholing work on SR 28 in Tahoe City, starting at Mackinaw Road heading east past Grove Street. Traffic Control will be in place. Bidirectional traffic will be maintained from Mackinaw Road to Grove Street. From Grove Street east, traffic will be reduced to a single lane. Work will occur weekdays between 7AM – 5 PM. Please be aware of crew members working in the street and follow all traffic signage.

May 28, 2023

The drilling operation will continue in Tahoe City over the weekend and through the following weeks. Bidirectional traffic is maintained at this location.

Single lane closures will be on hold for the Memorial Day Weekend. We will begin again May 30th at 8pm.

Tuesday May 30th our mainline crew will begin work in Carnelian Bay heading west. Access to businesses will be maintained.

We will have two additional crews working on gas services. One crew will start at Sahara Dr. in Carnelian Bay and work east. The other crew will begin at Estates Dr. in Tahoe Vista and work east.

May 15, 2023

Crews will continue installing the main gas line in Tahoe City from Grove Street working east. Bidirectional traffic will be maintained through Tahoe City. Monday 5/15/23 drilling equipment will be set up on the north side of Highway 28 across the street from Safeway in Tahoe City.

Businesses between Jackpine Street and Basecamp Tahoe City will have modified access. This closure will be in place for approximately 2 weeks, 24 hours a day.

Crews will continue potholing Highway 28 from Dollar Point to Carnelian Bay. Single lane traffic will be in place, monitored with flaggers.
 

May 7, 2023

Crews will begin excavation on mainline Sunday, May 7th at 7pm in Tahoe City. Work will begin at Mackinaw Rd heading east on Highway 28. Construction will take place 24 hours a day Sunday night through Friday afternoon. Bidirectional traffic will be maintained from Mackinaw Rd to Grove Street. No public parking is permitted in our closures during working hours.

An additional crew will be potholing throughout the week at Burton Creek, Carnelian Bay. Expect lane closures and traffic delays. Traffic will be single lane, maintained by flaggers.
 
We will have additional crews working in Tahoe Vista.  One crew will be working near Pinot Grande on gas services.  Q&D will notify all residences and business if your property will be affected.  The second crew will be working throughout Carnelian Bay and Tahoe Vista raising manholes and preparing for striping. The crews will be working 7am-7pm Monday-Thursday.
 
There will be no work from June 30th - July 9th. Work will resume July 9th at 7pm.

Our mainline crew will move from Carnelian Bay back to Tahoe City.  They will begin installing the pipeline starting at Grove Street heading east. We expect to be in Tahoe City for the next 2 weeks.  Traffic for the mainline will be bidirectional from Grove St to Base Camp.  Once we reach Base Camp traffic will be single lane, monitored by flaggers. The k rail located in front of Base Camp will be removed mid-week.
 
An additional crew will begin paving at Caledonia Circle in Carnelian Bay heading towards Anderson Street in Tahoe Vista. Work will begin Sunday night at 7pm and continue around the clock until Friday at 12pm.  There will be no work from 3pm-7pm daily. Traffic will be single lane, monitored by flaggers and a pilot car.
