Who:
All Arizona students in Maricopa County. Students and their teachers can enter individually, or as a group.
What:
Create a short video or poster to either:
- Promote the importance of knowing the signs of a natural gas leak and what to do if you suspect one.
- Promote the importance of calling 811 before you dig.
Entries will be judged on a scale of 0 – 3 on the following criteria:
Recognition and Response Videos
- Demonstrate various ways to identify a gas leak.
- Demonstrate mose important first steps to take if a leak is suspected.
- Demonstrate steps NOT to take if a leak is suspected.
Call Before You Dig
- Demonstrate importance of the Call 811 program.
- Demonstrate the risks of failing to call 811.
When:
Entries will be accepted from January 17 through March 6, 2020. Top 5 finalists’ entries in each category will be uploaded to the Southwest Gas Facebook page for public voting from March 24 – 31. Voting is allowed once per day per person and submissions with the most votes will be determined as winner for that category.
How:
Video Entries MUST:
- Be a maximum of 2 minutes.
- Include action shots in classrooms, school grounds, or your community.
- Include information about how you used the Engineering Design Process.
- Use original music/images or licensed to use/publish, Copyright-free, royalty-free, and Creative Commons music are accepted. Attribute original author(s) in credits.
Poster Entries MUST:
- Be no larger than 8 ½” x 11”.
- Include information about how this impacts people in your classroom, school, or community.
- Include information about how you used the Engineering Design Process to better understand the problem.
- Artwork must be original; any medium is acceptable.
Please note: Each individual who appears on camera (student, parent, teacher, volunteer, etc) must fill out and submit a waiver to participate in the contest. The waivers will be submitted along with your entry. Download the waiver
