Truckee, CA
In September 2022, Southwest Gas, along with other California utility companies, submitted a joint application to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to establish live hydrogen blending projects. Southwest Gas’ demonstration project in Truckee, California, will test 5% to 20% hydrogen blends, to assess the performance and safety in extreme cold weather and high-elevation conditions.

Gila Bend, AZ
The Sunoma Renewable Natural Gas Project in Gila Bend, AZ has been in service since November 2021 injecting almost 2 million therms of a year of cleaned an upgraded natural gas from the Paloma Dairy RNG facility into the Southwest Gas distribution system.

Buckeye, AZ
Through commercial agreements, the raw biogas at Butterfield Dairy in Buckeye, AZ is captured, cleaned, and upgraded to create as much as 4 million therms of pipeline-quality RNG per year that can be injected into the Southwest Gas system rather than rising into the atmosphere or flared off at the site.

Tucson, AZ
For reliability and resiliency purposes the liquified natural gas energy storage facility near Tucson, AZ was constructed on 31 acres of land to support more than 280,000 customers in Southern Arizona with a safe and dependable backup system. Pre-construction environmental studies were conducted to safeguard the area’s desert surroundings.

Maricopa, AZ
Milky Way Dairy in Maricopa, AZ, is a family-owned and operated business caring for more than 35,000 cows. Beginning in March 2023, this project can generate approximately up to 5.1 million therms of pipeline-quality gas annually for distribution on the Southwest Gas distribution system.

Pima County, AZ
The Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department (RWRD) in a joint effort with Southwest Gas, has been bringing low-carbon fuel to market through RNG, a byproduct of wastewater treatment, since October 2021 at the Tres Rios Renewable Gas Center biogas cleaning facility – the first of its kind in Arizona.

Victor Valley, CA
Southwest Gas is facilitating the delivery of pipeline-quality gas to southern California from Victor Valley Wastewater Reclamation Authority (VVWRA). The VVWRA’s RNG facility is an award-winning Waste to Energy Program that cleans and upgrades biogas produced from liquid and solid waste into pipeline-quality natural gas.

Las Vegas, NV
Southwest Gas has partnered with U.S. Gain to provide the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) with RNG to fuel its bus fleet. Southwest Gas purchases and delivers up to 50,000 therms per day on RTC’s behalf, supporting the customer’s emissions reductions goals.
