Customer-Owned Yard Line (COYL) Program

COYL Programs for Arizona

There are two programs in Arizona:

  • Line Inspections
    • This program enables us to inspect COYLs for leaks, with the customer’s permission. If a leak is found, we'll offer to relocate the meter as close as possible to the building, and will replace the primary COYL at no direct cost to you.*
  • Relocation & Replacement
    • Similarly, when Southwest Gas has major pipe replacement work scheduled in your neighborhood, you can give us permission to replace your primary COYL and relocate the gas meter, regardless of whether or not your COYL is leaking. Southwest Gas then becomes responsible for the line’s future maintenance, giving you one less thing to worry about.
*Exceptions may apply.

Inspection Process

Let Us Do a Free Line Leak Inspection.

The inspection process is free and generally takes less than an hour. Whenever possible, we try to conduct the inspection via an external leak investigation, which only requires access to the yard. Occasionally, we may need to do a pressure test, which requires entry into your home or business. A pressure test is typically required if landscaping, patios, pools, or other obstacles prevent the inspector from walking the route of the gas line. Together, we’ll make arrangements to inspect your line, call our Energy Specialists at 800-654-2765 .

A Southwest Gas employee or contractor with proper identification will perform the line leak inspection, click here .

If no line leak is found: Southwest Gas will let you know in person or we’ll leave a tag on your door. And of course, should you suspect a leak, even if your line has been recently checked, call 911 and Southwest Gas immediately at 800-654-2765 . For more natural gas safety information, click here .

If a line leak is found: For your safety, your gas service will be shut off immediately. A Southwest Gas representative will then be dispatched for further verification of a leak. This requires access to your property and, in some cases, access into your home or business. If a leak is confirmed, Southwest Gas representatives will provide you with appropriate options for your situation, including possibly replacing the primary COYL as part of this program.

Call 800-654-2765 to set up an appointment for your free line leak inspection. That’s all it takes to be on the way to keeping your family, property and neighborhood safe.

Relocation & Replacement Process

The meter relocation includes the replacement of the primary COYL. Any additional repairs on secondary COYLs (gas lines that serve appliances such as BBQs and pool heaters) will remain the property owner’s responsibility.

Gas service will be unavailable during the relocation process. While it’s never convenient to have your gas service shut off, it’s necessary to facilitate the relocation. We do our very best to make this easy and convenient for our customers, and the service is usually only off for a short period of time. (Residential replacements average 5 business days.)

Note: This special offer for applicable Arizona customers allows us to replace the primary yard line at no direct cost.* Secondary COYLs are not included in this program, nor are any appliance updates or houseline repairs.**

*Exceptions may apply. Please contact Southwest Gas at 800-654-2765 .

**Financial assistance to cover the cost of these associated repairs may be available to eligible customers through some community agencies. Please contact Southwest Gas for more information. Additionally, the Southwest Gas Contractor Referral Program offers a promotion that reduces the cost of labor for COYL-related repairs, find out more information here,  Contractor Referral Program .

NOTE: This program has been approved by the Arizona Corporation Commission and is available to Arizona customers only.
